Post-concussion symptoms three months after mild-to-moderate TBI: characteristics of sick-listed patients referred to specialized treatment and consequences of intracranial injury

Objective: To present pre-injury, injury-related, work-related and post-injury characteristics, to compare patients with without traumatic intracranial abnormalities, in a treatment-seeking sample persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) after mild-to-moderate TBI.Methods: Cross-sectional design the context of specialized TBI outpatient clinic. Eligible were aged 18–60 years, employed ? 50% at time injury, sick listed inclusion due PPCS. Data collected 8–12 weeks injury through review medical records, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, neuropsychological screening.Results: The study included 116 patients, whom 60% women, predominantly white-collar workers full-time positions. Ninety-four percent had mild TBI, 23% abnormalities. full reported high somatic, emotional, cognitive symptom burden, decreased health-related quality life. Patients normal CT/MRI results higher overall while abnormalities worse memory function.Conclusion: Injury severity radiological findings should not be sole ground for planning rehabilitation service provision PPCS, as subjective complaints do necessarily co-vary these variables.
